CHERIE BLAIR/PETER FOSTER ROW: CHERIE REPLIES; ITN LIVE ENGLAND: London: EXT Cherie Blair (wife of PM) statement (entirety) SOT - in view of controversy around me at moment I hope you won't mind me using this event to say few words/ you can't have failed to notice there's been lot of allegations about me, I haven't said anything/ when I discovered some of press are suggesting I tried to influence a judge I knew time had come to say something/ not fair to Tony or govt that entire focus of political debate at moment is about me/ I know I'm in special position, I'm wife of PM, I have interesting job and wonderful family but also know I'm not superwoman/ I'm juggling lot of balls in air/ trying to be good wife and mother, trying to be ministerial consort at home and abroad, being barrister, charity worker & sometimes some of balls get dropped/ aren't enough hours in day/ I choose friends carefully, Carole Caplin has been trusted friend and support to me as I've tried to adapt to pressures of my public role and do Tony and country proud/ when I was barrister I didn't spend much time worrying how I looked but when Tony became leader of Labour party I had to get my act together and Carole has been great help in that/ when she told me she had new boyfriend & later was expecting his baby it didn't cross my mind he would land me in mess I'm now in/ not my business to choose my friends/ Carole told me he had been in trouble in past and was reformed character/ I should have asked more questions but I didn't/ she told me he'd been in trouble for what he said were trading standards offences I had no idea he'd been in jail in more than one country, including this country/ even when I learned his name I had no idea who he was/ didn't know full story until couple of weeks ago when police alerted us that a newspaper was trying to set me up in meeting with him/ when I first decided to buy a flat for Euan I asked Carole to do it for me because I was unable to do it a...
