Emu on the Loose Hightails it Through Houston Junction

A loose emu was caught on camera dodging traffic while running frantically through a junction in Houston, Texas, on July 14. The footage, filmed by Lola Oyekan, shows the large, flightless bird hightailing it across a junction near the Sam Houston Tollway in the north of the city. Oyekan can be heard exclaiming: "There's a whole ostrich in the street," before bursting out laughing and adding: "I could not make this up, there is an entire ostrich." Oyekan told Storyful she was so shocked in the moment that she wrongly identified the bird as an ostrich, though it was later https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/trending/article/north-houston-emu-traffic-17307281.php#:~:text=Yvette%20Justice%20Fleming%20filmed%20an,parking%20lot%20on%20July%2014.&text=Ordinary%20people%20thought%20it%20may,emu%20around%20a%20parking%20lot reported to be an emu. "I have no idea where it came from but I've lived in Texas long enough to know that nothing I see surprises me. I presumed that it was someone's pet that somehow escaped and was trying to explore Houston," Oyekan said. https://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Escaped-emu-stops-traffic-in-Houston-gets-chased-17307877.php Local media later reported that the emu, confirmed to be a domesticated animal, was safely returned to its owners.
