'Love Should Not Hurt': Mel B interview; ***ITV NEWS EXCLUSIVE - MUST CREDIT ITV NEWS***ENGLAND: London:INT Melanie Brown (Mel B, The Spice Girls) interview SOT (2 of 5)Q: Tell us why you linked up with Women's Aid- Wrote a book in 2019 called Brutally Honest - still going on now even though 5 years divorced - doesn't stop on many different levels - emotional abuse, coercive behaviour - been through most of it, now in a position where I can talk about it and shed light and bring awareness - at 10 Downing Street last year - feel very proud to be in position where I can talk about it - be honest and real and help people Q: Psychologically it could last a lifetime - It is a lifetime for me - PTSD - look at what's been going on with Sarah and her killing, something has to stop - by helping charities like Women's Aid, giving more money to refuges, can help immensely Q: Lockdown - women can't leave the house - Lockdown has highlighted what is going on - had to come to a point where we can't deny it - put everybody in that situation - able to speak about it more freely - have the courage to admit to yourself I'm not in a good situation right now Q: Rise in statistic of reports of domestic abuse - Mind-blowingly shocking to me - mainly happens against women and childrenQ: Great number too frightened to do anything- Or they end up going back to abuser because they don't see any way of surviving by themselves - becomes almost impossible for someone to break free - always help out there - many women going through itQ: How did you find the courage?- Mine's quite a sad story - married for ten years - did find strength to leave but then ended up going back for reasons I don't want to discuss right now - impossible;e situation for me- finally left when my father died, finally had courage to say look, no more, and I left - nearly 5 years now - tough but got amazing support - team, women's aid, friends and family - helped me through dark...
