Shark Bites Florida Man Posing for Photo During Catch-and-Release Fail

A man was bitten by a shark and had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment during a fishing trip in southwestern Florida on Saturday, August 16. This footage captured by Richard Engel shows the man, Shawn Meuse, posing with the shark for a photograph on the island of Cayo Costa, Florida, on Saturday night. Another man could be seen lifting the shark's tail fin, after which the shark squirms and chomps down on Meuse's leg. Later footage shows Meuse lying on the sand with a bloody leg. According to https://www.gulfcoastnewsnow.com/article/fisherman-hospitalized-after-shark-photo-went-wrong-at-cayo-costa/65813773 local news reports , the shark in the footage was a lemon shark, which are a prohibited species in Florida that must remain in the water with their gills submerged during fishing. Meuse told local news that he wasn't fishing and wasn't the one who caught the shark. Engel told Storyful that the shark was released and swam away after the incident. Meuse is set to undergo surgery for his leg on Tuesday, https://www.gulfcoastnewsnow.com/article/fisherman-hospitalized-after-shark-photo-went-wrong-at-cayo-costa/65813773 local news reported .
