Senator Franken Concludes Resignation Statement to the Senate

Minnesota Senator Al Franken tells the Senate. It had been a tough few weeks, but he was a very, very lucky man with a beautiful healthy family that loves him. Franken says he learned a lot on the fly and being a Senator was hard after winning his first election by 312 votes. Franken says Paul Wellstone spent his life working for mental health parity and he had work left undone. Franken says it is a rush to look around the room full of people ready to fight alongside you but that even on the worst day of his political life it had all been worth it because as Wellstone said politics is about the improvement of people's lives and he will be back on his feet, hoping to be fighting alongside others every step of the way.
