New York Congressman Nick Lalota and Librarian of Congress Robert Newlen discuss whether the decreased reliance on full time employees will continue given Newlen said in the 90s the library had about 5,000 full time employees but now around 3,100 with AI and automation helping, with Newlen responding with AI he does not predict they are going to have a reduction of workforce as AI is replacing some work processes that free staff to do more, citing their bill summaries for Congress.gov where they have an enormous backlog and are working with AI to have the first summary part done by AI not the analytical part which is the most important, noting if they could implement an AI solution it would give them opportunity to get rid of that backlog.
