SPEECH - Zohran Mamdani Sworn In As New York City's 112th Mayor
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - JANUARY 1: (SPEECH) New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani says "They will be Russian Jewish immigrants in Brighton Beach, Italians in Roseville, and Irish families in Woodhaven. Many of whom came here with nothing but a dream of a better life, a dream which has withered away. They will be young people in cramped Marble Hill apartments, where the walls shake when the subway passes" after he was ceremonially sworn in as New York City’s 112th mayor at City Hall by Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT-I) on January 1, 2026 in New York City. Mamdani has added a “block party” to the official inauguration events to allow thousands of New Yorkers to take part. Mamdani was officially sworn in at midnight by New York Attorney General Letitia James at the Old City Hall subway station in a private ceremony. (Footage by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)
