Universal Newsreel - Lyndon Johnson on Vietnam, USA; 1965

Newsreel reporting on President Lyndon Johnson speaking to an American audience (possibly at Johns Hopkins University during a speech called 'Peace without Conquest' - please check your own sources) where he explains the reasons behind the war in Vietnam and details his commitment to providing support to the people of South Vietnam: 'Since 1954, every American president has offered support... we have helped to build and we have helped to defend... we have made a national pledge to help South Vietnam defend its independence and I intend to keep that promise'. Views of ships on a river, infrastructure that could be a dam, interior of a factory with heavy machinery, construction workers carrying a heavy object near a steel bridge being built, a very large cog turning, people in an agricultural field, a doctor using a stethoscope, a classroom-type setting with young men using microscopes, a textiles factory and people carrying food in traditional woven baskets. The newsreader says, 'He called on southeast Asian nations to mount a cooperative drive for economic development and he asked the United Nations to join in the plan... He pointed out that education in trades and in modern agricultural methods is vital. Food is ever a problem, as is modern medicine, in countries where life expectancy is 40 years', and mentions farm surplus. USA and Vietnam; speech in April 1965, possibly on the 7th.
