Chris Sarandon Explains How He Played His Character in 'The Princess Bride'

Chris Sarandon: No, I think just in terms of the way it's being played, that is I'm not sort of pulling out all the stops and... Interviewer: Right, right. Chris Sarandon: I'm not a ranting, raving lunatic. A lot of that has to do with the style of the piece. The framework that Bill Goldman has set up is such that it's not something that really lends itself. The style of piece doesn't really lend itself to a raving, ranting kind of lunatic villain. So I don't think it's as interesting to watch. But people aren't really like that, bad people. Real bad people. Chris Sarandon: You know, it's just like real crazy people. They don't go around drooling and doing this. The scariest crazy people are the ones who are the quiet ones. And I think that's pretty much the same with villains, with bad people.
