Congresswoman Sykes explains Closing Bribery Loophole Act as anti-corruption legislative package introduced

Ohio Congresswoman Emilia Sykes says at a news conference with fellow Democrats to introduce legislation to confront political corruption that that day he introduced the closing bribery loophole Act which would fix a weakness in federal bribery laws, recalling that in 2016 the United States Supreme Court overturned the corruption conviction of former Governor Bob McDonnell after he took more than $175,000 in lavish gifts including Rolex watches, designer clothes and private loans while promoting events at the governor's mansion, and the court ruled those favors did not meet the narrow definition of official act under federal law, blowing a hole in anti-corruption safeguards and making it easier for public officials to sell access without consequences.
