Massive Day of the Dead Offering transforms Mexico City's Zocalo square
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - OCT. 28: On Tuesday, Oct. 28, Mexico City's main square, the Zócalo, came alive with the Mega Offering for the Dead, featuring large-format skulls recounting national history. The display also includes drone light show and marigold flowers, a traditional bloom used since pre-colonial times in the festivities, believed to mark the path of the deceased to the altars.Families and tourists visit this traditional parade, which showcases the talent of artisans creating skulls several meters high, a motif always significant in Mexico's identity. This year, the monumental offering features two Xoloitzcuintle dogs—a Mexican hairless dog breed part of national legend and tradition since pre-colonial times—characterized by skulls at the center of the display.Visitor Azul Santiago, said she felt great pride in the event, explaining that the offering was more than just a spectacle but had a beautiful origin rooted in the country's history and traditions.Another visitor, Israel Guzman, expressed pride in the tradition and his country, noting that celebrating death as life is something incredible and unique to Mexico.
