Derawar Fort: Pakistan's 9th century architectural masterpiece

CHOLISTAN, PAKISTAN - MARCH 19: Pakistan's spectacular landmark Derawar Fort still stands, despite having existed for about 12 centuries in the Cholistan Desert of Punjab province.The red-bricked fort was built in the 9th century by a Hindu ruler from Rajasthan.In 1733 the Nawab of Bahawalpur, Sadeq Mohammad Khan I, captured the fort and reconstructed it.The structure is surrounded by 40 bastions of 30 meters that span over 1.5 kilometers.Altaf Hussain, a watchman and tour guide at the fort, says that there are 260 rooms including offices, a small prison, a gallows, a water pond and residential roomsEspecially in February during the famous jeep rally, the fort attracts a large number of local, national and international tourists.(Footage by Muhammet Nazim Tasci/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
