Palestinian malnourished child suffering from rare skin disease struggles for treatment amidst Gaza war

GAZA, PALESTINE - MARCH 14: Palestinian child Nour Jarbou has been facing immense challenges in receiving medical treatment due to the aftermath of deadly attacks carried out by Israel in the north of Gaza. Jarbou, who is currently under treatment at Kemal Advan Hospital in northern Gaza, remains unable to access essential medical care due to the prevailing medical inadequacies in the region. Umme Vail Jarbou, accompanying her daughter, revealed that Nour has been battling her illness for four years. However, her condition has deteriorated significantly since the outbreak of the recent conflict in Gaza. The Palestinian woman emphasized that Nour's health has been severely impacted by dehydration and malnutrition, stemming from the inability to fulfill her protein, carbohydrate, and water requirements following spinal cord transplant surgery. This situation has exacerbated the challenges faced by the young girl, leaving her unable to walk and requiring constant medical attention. In a heartfelt statement to Anadolu, Nour's mother expressed the family's long-standing struggle with her daughter's illness. She recounted the journey, from Nour's initial battle with cancer and chemotherapy to the hopeful period following a bone marrow transplant four years ago. However, their hopes were dampened when Nour developed “graft-versus-host disease”, causing further complications. With desperation mounting, Nour's family prays for her recovery and implores Allah to ease her suffering. They also express their desire to seek treatment abroad, recognizing the psychological toll the prolonged illness has taken on Nour. Despite the hardships, Nour's mother remains steadfast in her faith, seeking solace in prayers for her daughter's well-being. (Footage by Karam Hassan /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
