Pat McFadden interview; ENGLAND: East London:INTPat McFadden MP (Work and Pensions Secretary) interview SOT.- On Donald Trump urging Keir Starmer to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz / the PM will decide what equipment, if any, gets sent to the region / the framework for our approach to this has not been to be a protagonist in this war from the beginning but we will, of course, act to protect our citizens and our military assets in the region if we have to / we discuss this all the time with the United States and our allies, but we're not protagonists in this war / [on situation in Strait of Hormuz] it's a concern for us and the whole world, it affects the global energy price, for the next few months families in the UK are protected by the energy price cap until the summer, but there are some families who aren't, for example those who use heating oil / we're not protagonists in this war, we'll keep discussing this with allies, do want to see the Straits opened, but the closing of them is a result of this war, which we are not an active part / PM will keep discussing with Trump, they spoke last night / [on Trump saying he'll remember we didn't send warships] we're used to comments like this from President Trump, the best way is not to overreact to them, to see through them, and to remember that underneath them, the UK and the US, even though they haven't taken the same position on this war, have got a deep and enduring security and economic relationship- [On Keir Starmer's management style] he's a professional and good public servant, he's motivated by duty, wants to do the best job he can for the country, that's the kind of leadership we need in very volatile times / [you don't think he's a bit too quiet?] no, I don't think he's that, he is what he is, we're all our own character, there's a strong case for a serious person for serious times
