Paul Duke, off camera, asks U.S. Senator Howard Baker (R-TN): "There was a politician in Tennessee some time ago who said this of you, Senator Baker. That you're a man who 'keeps the shades down and because of this you can't look inside of your mind and see how it's functioning'. Are you a man who does indeed keep the shades down?" Baker believes so, intentional or not, interprets remark as saying he is a private person, which he is. Duke: "Calvin Coolidge once said that there's no compulsion for anyone to serve in public life. Have you every thought about another life away from all this power and glory?" Baker has and does almost daily. He sees himself in his second career now, the first practicing law. He believes he's still young enough to do something else, is not wedded to staying in the Senate all his life. Baker has seen colleagues die in office, and there is no pleasure in going to those funerals in Capitol Rotunda. Duke, off camera: "Thank you very much, Senator Baker.
