VAN, TURKEY - JANUARY 25: People in rural neighborhoods of eastern Turkey, which is mostly covered in snow in recent weeks, have been enjoying the snowy weather by playing snowballs, making snowmen, sledging on snow, or playing team games in snow-covered fields.A group of young men in Gevas district of Van province came together to play a local game "topa garante" which is similar to the widely known baseball game.Like baseball, the game is played with a bat and a ball between two teams of six players.Also known as "guhsegi" and " topa kille" the game is one of the favorite winter amusements of the locals living in Van, Sirnak, and Hakkari provinces.“We learned this game from our grandfathers when we were children. Maybe the next generations will play too. We are trying to keep this tradition alive as much as we can," says one of the players, Ercan Tubtemur.With no winner or loser in the end, the game "is played only for fun," he adds.
