PUNTA HERMOSA, LIMA, PERU - 2023/03/17: People shoveling mud from their homes due to floods and mudslide in Punta Hermosa, an exclusive beach south of Lima, caused by the heavy rains of Cyclone Yaku and the presence of a coastal El Niño anomaly. The El Niño anomaly, by rising the sea water temperature, is affecting some coastal provinces. Similar phenomena have not occurred for several years in Lima, a city located on the deserted Pacific coast, which lacks rainfall and normally does not accumulate, in a whole year of rainfall, more than two liters of water per square meter.
