This time lapse clip features a turquoise-colored Laguna Caliente at Poás Volcano National Park in central Costa Rica.Standing at 8,848 feet, the Poás Volcan has erupted 40 times since 1828. There was a strong eruption in April 2017. It caused the evacuation of visitors and residents. The volcano and surrounding park were closed for nearly 17 months.There are two crater lakes near the summit: Laguna Caliente ("hot lagoon") and Lake Botos.Laguna Caliente has acid gases that can create acid rain and acid fog. The combo is known to damage nearby ecosystems, plus irritate eyes and lungs.
