SICILY, ITALY - JAN. 20, 2026: A powerful storm battered southern Italy on Tuesday, Jan. 20, prompting authorities to issue a red alert along Sicily’s eastern coast as violent winds and storm surges disrupted daily life.Raging waves were seen crashing between Aci Castello and the Faraglioni of Aci Trezza, while schools across Sicily and in Calabria remained closed for a second consecutive day, port operations were suspended and damage was reported in several areas.Italian authorities said the severe weather, known as Storm Harry, also affected the Mediterranean island of Malta, as emergency services remained on alert across the region.(Footage by Salvatore Allegra /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
