POLITICS / ABU DHABI: Prime Minister David Cameron visits Zayed University; re IRAN UPROAR OVER NUCLEAR WEAPONS - Iran poses threat in 2 ways - Trying to acquire a nuclear weapon that is a treat in itself especially after - Could also trigger human arms rights across entire region - We're quite prepared for you to have access to civilian nuclear power - There is a peaceful path you can take - Accept you can't have military nuclear power - Very important countries like ours keep up the pressure, sanctions and work - We should respect countries national sovereignty and each other's choices - There are occasions when something happens within a country of such huge consequences for it's people the country needs to sit up - World needs to do more about Syria- You can't draw an absolute rule - We're a world of nation states that should respect each other re ADVICE TO STUDENTS:- Work hard - You have created a diverse economy with incredible connections - Challenge for next generation is what do you do with that - How do you further diversify your economy - How do you grow your relationship with emerging countries of the south and east? - Work and study hard while you're here and think about what you can contribute to your country in futurere re: IN TERMS OF GOOD GOVT, IS DEMOCRACY THE ONLY ANSWER ? - All countries benefit if they give their people chance of a job and a voice and a way to participate - All countries are on a path- Countries that put in place the building blocks of society I think will be the most successful - Give people a way to be consulted over decisions- Idea that holding an election is enough, that is completely wrong - Democracy isn't just about holding a vote every 5 years - What lasts is all of the building blocks you're put-on it. - Need to look at all the aspects ... different paths, different timetables - Need to show respect for countries - I gave UN speech about the building blocks th...
