Princess Akiko Joins In On Planting Organic Rice
Princess Akiko of Mikasa, a member of the imperial household and a distinguished visiting professor at Kokugakuin University in Tokyo, stuck her feet in the mud and joined students and local residents planting rice at a paddy in Niigata on June 5, 2016,Japan. The organic rice-planting was held at the behest of the princess as a way to learn appreciation for food. The princess plans to later help clear the paddy of weeds and harvest the rice, which is expected to be given to Yahikojinja shrine in Yahiko, Niigata Prefecture, as an offering.
