New Copies Of Ian Fleming's Literary Journal Printed By The Hot Metal Process

Printer Stan Lane sits at a pneumatic Monotype keyboard as he works on a limited edition letterpress version of a special Ian Fleming Issue of The Book Collector at Gloucester Typesetting Services in Stonehouse, on February 27, 2017 in Gloucestershire, England. Stan Lane, who runs the last commercial Monotype business in Britain, started his career in 1954 as an apprentice aged 16. He is one of very few people still working in hot-metal lead type and he is probably the last of the famous Monotype artisan print setters who still works for publishers and private customers. He is currently working on the special Ian Fleming Issue of The Book Collector literary quaterly to be published in March. The issue will also revive a competition from 70 years ago to create the 27th letter of the alphabet. Fleming, who also created James Bond, launched The Book Collector in 1952 the same year he wrote Casino Royale and it is now owned by his nephew James Fleming, also an author and edited by former Independent Obituaries Editor James Fergusson.
