RUSHES: Queen Camilla hosts event at Queen's Reading Room, Clarence House
Queen Camilla hosts event at Queen's Reading Room, Clarence House; Part 2 of 2ENGLAND: London: Clarence House:INTVicki Perrin (CEO, The Queen's Reading Room) speech SOT- High frequency readers are significantly less likely to experience feelings of loneliness; important not just for the health of society, but because leading research tells us that loneliness can increase the likelihood of different dementias / we've found that so commonly associated with bedtime, reading at different times of day has quite different effects on the brain; some people can experience a brain recharge or brain refresh if they read in the morning or at lunchtime, making them more likely to be able to better deal with whatever lies ahead in their day / there are more than one hundred billion neurons in the brain, almost as many stars as there are in the Milky Way galaxy / watching the brain in an EEG light up like the night sky as neurons are fired and connections are made is a really beautiful thing, but it's important too / an exercised brain is a resilient brain- So what's next; in the immediate term, a commitment from us to dig deeper, to learn more about this important connection between reading and well-being, of the individual and of society at large / and coming later this year, the launch of an exciting project, which we hope will change the way we think about reading, helping to get the nation reading again and experiencing the magic of storytelling / thank you to all of you who support us in our work, and to a woman whose humility prevents her from taking credit where it is due - in 2021 she created a book club which became a global community, and now as a charity has so far reached 12 million people in 152 countries around the world / my distinguished guests, please join me as I put my hands together in thanks for her majesty the Queen.
