Red toad calling - 4K stock video
Red toad (Schismaderma carens) calling at night. The clip shows the movement of the buccal cavity whilst the male toad is calling. During the process of calling, air does not exit the mouth but cycles back and forth between the buccal cavity and lungs. Only male toads and frogs call, which is termed croaking. The main reason a frog croaks at night is to attract a mate and or to claim or protect territory. Filmed in Zimanga private game reserve, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa
