One Year After Lockdown, NYC Announces a Full Reopening on July 1st
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK - MAY 19: Residents dance to music as a kickball team plays in the background at McCarren Park, Brooklyn, on May 19, 2020, in New York City. On May 19th, Governor Andrew Cuomo officially lifted COVID restrictions in New York City. A few weeks prior, Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city aims to fully reopen on July 1, allowing businesses, including restaurants, stores and nightclubs, to operate at full capacity. The news in addition to the falling number of COVID-cases as well as more wide spread vaccinations led to a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere. (Footage by Lawrence Sumulong / Getty Images)
