Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed says in floor remarks anticipating a budget resolution set to fund immigration enforcement agencies then shutdown since February 14 that ICE was crashing into homes without judicial warrants and detaining American citizens, and proposed prohibiting enforcement raids at hospitals, schools, day care centers, churches and courthouses, calling these places of community and religious observation rather than places to trap people, and arguing Senate Republicans were pushing partisan legislation to double down on mistakes by giving more money to out-of-control agencies rather than helping average Americans in a struggling economy.
