Russell Marker on price of progesterone in '30s or '40s, USA; 1977

Russell Marker, a chemist who contributed to the development of steroids that would later be used in the contraceptive (birth control) pill, says that the price of progesterone, which had previously been made using animal derivatives and not wild yam, was high in the 1930s or 40s: 'Well I ended up with roughly three kilos of re-purified progesterone and at that time, the market price was at 80 dollars to 100 dollars a gram.' Filmed in the USA in the mid-1970s. (LSF5528N - AEVZ001J)
