Senator Blackburn and gambling addiction counselor discuss advertising to children as algorithm-driven gambling ads that target minors despite claimed restrictions

Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Technology and Data Privacy Chair Marsha Blackburn asks Public Health Advocacy Institute Director of Gambling Policy Harry Levant what his research had shown about advertising to children, Levant replying that when gambling companies say they do not advertise to children they mean prime-time television, but children's entertainment was online on Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms where gambling advertising was completely unregulated and inundated with affiliate marketing, pop-up ads, and paid influencers, and that delivering advertising for a known addictive product to children before their risk-reward brain systems were fully formed, which does not happen until age 25 or 26, was by definition endangering children for the industry's benefit.
