MLK Holiday Debate
U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY) states that he just came from the Senate floor where he passionately spoke about the "obscenity", referring to the binders of damaging information gathered on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and distributed to every Senator by U.S. Senator Jesse Helms. Adult Caucasian man defends Sen. Helms actions, stating that Sen. Moynihan could at least read it before calling it obscene. Cokie Roberts, in voiceover, states that only a handful of Senators agreed with Sen. Helms while the rest were uncomfortable the reemergence of "old segregationist politics". Senator calls Sen. Helms point of view "nauseating" and "abhorrent", but honest. Senator says this may reawaken old memories of southern politicians practicing racist politics. VS of Republican Senators separating themselves from Sen. Helms, even if they also opposed the proposed bill creating Martin Luther King Day as a federal holiday.
