The video, shot by Joanna Steidle of https://twitter.com/HamptonsDrone Hampton Drones , captured multiple sharks lurking near large schools of menhaden fish, who had formed into https://ocean.si.edu/ocean-life/fish/bait-ball bait balls in a bid to protect themselves from the predators. Steidle told Storyful that all of the footage was filmed "within 100 feet of the coast of Gin Beach and Coopers Beach in Southampton Village." "With waters getting increasingly warmer, bait balls are dramatically increasing in size and are coming in closer to the shoreline. And the sharks and other predators follow their food source," Steidle said.
