GRAAFF-REINET, SOUTH AFRICA - APRIL 24: Spanning over an area of 400,000 square kilometer, Karoo National Park is South Africa's number one destination for nature lovers.The Park is a stopover on the N1 Highway between the Cape and the interior of the country. Cape Town is about 500km south of the park while Johannesburg is about 1,000km north of the Park.Along with its wildlife reserve, rock formations, mountains and general landscape, the geology of the Karoo is the most attractive part.A 400m-long fossil trail depicts the geology and palaeontology of the great karoo by making use of genuine fossils and petrified wood on display along the paved walkway.The park also offers a wide variety of activities for guests who want to stay longer. A mountain bike trail, guided and un-guided walks, a selection of 4x4 trails, and guided game drives are among them. Accommodation facilities include Dutch style cottages and family units.Day visitors can visit the park throughout the year – with no bookings required.
