BELGOROD, RUSSIA - DECEMBER 19: A specially decorated steam train carrying Ded Moroz (Father Frost), Russia’s traditional New Year gift-giver, arrived at the railway station in Belgorod on Friday, Dec. 19, as part of its annual festive tour across the country.The train, a joint initiative of JSC Russian Railways and the Vologda Regional Government, travels to numerous cities during the winter season to celebrate the upcoming New Year and Christmas holidays.Upon arrival in Belgorod, Ded Moroz—accompanied by fairy-tale characters including his granddaughter Snegurochka (the Snow Maiden)—presided over a ceremony in Cathedral Square. The central event was the lighting of the city's main New Year tree.The "Ded Moroz Train" is a fully adorned holiday attraction, featuring elaborate lights, winter-themed artwork, and decorations inspired by Russian fairy tales.Each winter, Russian Railways (RZD) operates this special train as part of a holiday tour, primarily focused on celebrating the New Year, which is the major winter holiday in Russia.The train's crew, comprised of actors portraying the legendary characters, greets locals and visitors at station stops, distributing festive mood and taking part in public celebrations.(Footage by /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
