Sunbittern wading in a river - 4K stock video

Sunbittern (Eurypyga helias) hunting for food in shallow water on a muddy riverbank. This bird inhabits areas near water in the moist rainforests of Central and northern South America. It feeds on a wide range of smaller animals including insects, spiders and crustaceans, as well as fish, amphibians and lizards. Its barred pattern provides camouflage on the forest floor, and it has bright eye spots on its wings that are flashed to startle predators. Despite its name and appearance it is not related to the true bitterns, which are a type of heron. Instead its closest relative is the kagu of New Caledonia, together with which it forms the small order Eurypygiformes. Filmed in Orellana Province, western Ecuador
