Spending summer in Venice, flamingoes begin return journey to northwestern Türkiye
BURSA, TÜRKİYE - AUG. 23: Tens of thousands of flamingos have begun their return journey to northwestern Türkiye after spending summer in Venice, Italy.Footage shows the migratory birds on the delta of Kocacay in Karacabey district of Bursa province, where they will stay during the winter. They have spent most of the summer on the delta of Po in Venice located along the north-east coast of Italy.Türkiye has several nesting grounds for the colorful species including the Salt Lake, which is a wetland of great importance for flamingos in the vicinity of the Mediterranean and North Africa due to the algae’s presence. After its ice-blue color during the winter, the lake changes color in summer to a mixture of red and white due to a type of algae called dunaliella salina, which is a part of the food chain for flamingos.Lake Van basin also hosts thousands of flamingoes, which add to the spectacular view of the lake in eastern Turkey. There are many other small lakes across the country where the fluffy pink birds can feed themselves.
