Congressman Luttrell and Colby discuss self-sustaining energy capabilities and US lacking high purity iron production at oversight hearing

Texas Congressman Morgan Luttrell and Defense Undersecretary Elbridge Colby discuss Colby's perspective on ensuring they have self-sustaining energy capabilities to operate in a contested space particularly as they move forward in technology with the development of mobile tactical micro grid power systems, with Colby responding he is not an expert on that specific issue but thinks the ability to have logistics that are adapted to the scale of the Indo-Pacific area and also the ability to be resilient even in the face of significant precision attack at scale is very important so self-sustaining kind of energy models are important, while Luttrell recommends if they are not doing that the Department of War takes a hard look on long term sustainability if they have to send boots on the ground noting the United States lacks sufficient domestic production for high purity iron which serves as foundation input for rare magnets, naval shipbuilding, alloys, electrical systems and hypersonic systems at a House Armed Services Committee hearing.
