Thailand and Cambodia fail to reach ceasefire after ASEAN meeting
POIPET, BANTEAY MEANCHEY, CAMBODIA - DEC. 22: Thailand and Cambodia failed to reach a ceasefire following a meeting held under the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, according to Thai officials, on Monday, Dec. 22.Thai Foreign Ministry official Sihasak Phuangketkeow said the two-hour meeting ended without an agreement on a ceasefire between the two countries.Reports indicated renewed clashes in border areas after the meeting.In the evening, illumination flares were seen fired into the sky in Poipet, a Cambodian border town.In a joint statement issued after the ASEAN meeting held in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, the foreign ministers reaffirmed their readiness to support all efforts that contribute to reducing tensions and restoring stability.(Footage by Daniel Ceng /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
