Japan amphibious unit, U.S. Marines conduct drill on remote island of Tanegashima

TANEGASHIMA, KAGOSHIMA, JAPAN - NOVEMBER 25: The amphibious troop unit of Japan's Self-Defense Forces (SDF) and the U.S. Marines conducted a joint exercise on Thursday (Nov. 25) on Tanegashima Island in the southwestern Kagoshima region, to develop integrated land, sea, and air operational capabilities and to ensure the defense of the Japanese islands.The drill is also aimed at strengthening coordination between the allies on the back of China's maritime assertiveness around the Japanese-controlled Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea.The Japanese Navy said on Twitter that the JMSDF conducts the JMSDF Exercise 2021 between 21-30 November with the U.S., Australian, the UK, and German navies to strengthen the cooperation between the naval forces during this exercise.
