Anti-nuclear weapons group ICAN wins Nobel Peace Prize
OSLO, NORWAY - OCTOBER 06: The chairwoman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss-Andersen and Nobel committee secretary, Olav Njoelstad announce that the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) has won the Nobel Peace Prize 2017, on October 06, 2017 in Oslo. Geneva-based anti-nuclear weapon organization had been awarded for drawing “attention to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons and for its ground-breaking efforts to achieve a treaty-based prohibition of such weapons". Norwegian Nobel Committee also said the ICAN "has been the leading civil society actor in the endeavor to achieve a prohibition of nuclear weapons under international law". Last year, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos won the Nobel Peace Prize "for his resolute efforts to bring the country's more than 50-year-long civil war to an end".(Footage by Atila Altuntas/Anadolu Agency/Getty Images)
