'Drought bells' start to ring for Algeria
BOUMERDES, ALGERIA - MAY 2: The danger of drought has started to reappear in Algeria due to the increase in annual average temperatures and the decrease in precipitation.Algerian authorities are working on measures that will create an alternative to rainwater, especially to purify sea water, in order to save agricultural areas in the country.Although the northern regions of the country received large amounts of rainfall and snowfall at the beginning of winter, the significant decrease in precipitation since the beginning of March has caused a serious decrease in the water reserves in the dams.Officials expect the western and central parts of the country to be the areas most affected by the drought, while the northern parts are thought to be in a somewhat better situation.
