The Florida panther is an endangered subspecies of mountain lion found in South Florida's swamps and forests. These solitary, tan-colored cats, often featuring crooked tails from inbreeding, weigh 64–165 pounds and measure 6–7 feet long. They are strictly carnivorous, feeding on deer and hogs, and face threats from vehicle collisions and habitat loss. Florida panthers have tan, tawny-beige fur with creamy white underbellies, and black markings around the ears, snout, and tail tip. Kittens are born with spots and blue eyes, which fade as they grow.
