Extreme heat puts lives of homeless people at risk in Paris

PARIS, FRANCE - AUGUST 3: The lives of hundreds of homeless people are at risk due to the extremely hot weather in the French capital.Around 200 people with children are struggling to maintain an already-difficult life in small makeshift tents.Footage from Pantin commune in the northeastern suburbs of Paris shows the living conditions of the homeless people. They are mostly migrants who came from Mali, Ivory Coast, Guinea and other sub-Saharan African countries. For them, living is tough with very limited cleaning materials and only several restrooms and shower cabins.Winter and summer also bring extra difficulties for those poor families. The extreme heat makes it very difficult to store the food, for babies in particular, and to prevent it from spoiling. In July, extreme peak heat was recorded in the country, which has also been battling enormous fires.Exceptionally, in western France’s Brittany region, the city of Nantes witnessed a high of 42C (107.6F) and the town of Saintes in Charente-Maritime 41.1C (106F) for the first time since 1949.Several other locations beat the previous heat record, according to Meteo France, including La Roche-sur-Yon, Cholet, Niort, Saint-Nazaire, Angers, Lanmeur, Saint-Brieuc, Brest and Chassiron.
