Art and winter magic come together in Slovakia’s mountain wonderland

HREBIENOK, VYSOKE TATRY, SLOVAKIA - NOV. 30, 2024: The Tatry Ice Dome, an annual winter attraction in Slovakia's High Tatras, has officially opened to the public, signaling the start of the winter season.This year’s dome, crafted from intricate ice sculptures, showcases stunning artistry and draws visitors to experience the region's natural beauty.Located in the picturesque mountains, the attraction is a highlight for locals and tourists alike, offering a unique blend of culture and winter magic.This year’s Tatry Ice Dome pays tribute to Pope John Paul II, marking 30 years since his visit to the region in 1995.The breathtaking structure, made from 1,800 ice blocks weighing a total of 225 tons, is housed under a dome 25 meters in diameter. Inside, the temperature is maintained between -3°C and -10°C to preserve the intricate ice art.The construction involved 20 skilled sculptors and carvers from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany.
