London’s British Museum partly closes as workers go on strike again

LONDON, THE UK - FEBRUARY 16: The United Kingdom’s cultural workers’ strike forced the British Museum in London to close some departments.On January 31, the museum’s visitor services and security departments announced their intention to strike from February 13–19 due to low wages and working conditions, according to the Public and Commercial Service (PCS) Culture Group.On Thursday (Feb. 16) dozens of museum workers gathered outside the iconic museum.A representative of the Public Commercial Services Union (PCS), Hamza Assef working as a visitor assistant at the museum told Anadolu Agency Video News (AAVN) that they are demanding a 10% wage increase, but also for better labor conditions, job security, better job and redundancy terms.Assef stated that the museum, and the government refused to pay 10 percent pay rise, offering a 4 percent .“We have come to a decision that, you know, we need to make a stand, this is the last resort after months of negotiations and talks we had with museum management,” he said.
