Q: Tell me why is it important to encourage young talent and to train them in an industry such as this one
A: Well, I'm conscious that how many young people have actually lost their job or never managed to get a job in the first place being hit by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and what the kickstart scheme does / it's a mutual benefit / it gives the young person a real job plus also extra employability support / so if they've never had to pull a CV together or getting top tips on interviews, those sorts of things, but here with employers like M&S and many others / so they get that real professional support at the start of the career / and hopefully then the next job might well still be in the same company, but actually it could be an opportunity in a completely different industry, but it's about giving confidence, giving solid training and genuinely a nice salary in the, in their pocket every month
Q: And the other thing about work experience, it's about ruling stuff out, you want to gain the experience to decide that you want to perhaps go down another route
A: Well, that's right / speaking earlier, I think it was to Olivia, for example, there's an element here about product placements and of course the store will want to sell as much as possible / I used to work in a different end of the business, the supplier into supermarkets, and we're always trying to work out how we can make opera that's attractive / so people are learning not only for the benefit of M&S and themselves, but also skills that you could potentially take elsewhere / and that's where the extra employability support will help them realise what they picked up and how they can transfer that somewhere else.
