Nefta Oasis lies in west Tunisia among barren, rolling hills of sand. It overlooks the Chott Djerid, a vast saline depression. Nefta is a town in southern Tunisia with about 15,000 inhabitants. The town lies near the Algerian border to the north of the Salt Lake Chott el Djerid. The former caravan station, with its 24 mosques and 100 marabouts the religious center of Djerid region and a stronghold of Sufism.Nefta composed of two parts on either side of the valley Corbeille from which sprang from the sources of the oasis. Since the "basket of Nafta," the area where once flowed sources, water was channeled into a wadi which then branched out to water the palm groves that spans 300 hectares and has nearly a half million palm -dattiers.
