Turkish farmers harvest renowned ‘Finike’ oranges in Antalya

ANTALYA PROVINCE, TÜRKIYE - FEB. 6: Turkish farmers continued harvesting oranges in the southern province of Antalya, with the renowned Finike variety drawing particular attention for its quality and export potential.Workers in the Finike district collected the geographically indicated fruit on Friday, Feb. 6, with orchards producing more than 500 tons daily despite recent heavy rain and storms. The Finike orange, which received geographical indication registration in 2008, is primarily of the Washington Navel variety and is exported to European and Balkan countries alongside domestic sales.Workers arriving early in the morning load the oranges into crates on tractors before transporting them to local facilities for washing and packaging.Approximately 80% of production is distributed to the domestic market, particularly Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, while 20% is exported internationally. This year's yield has increased by 10%, with the harvest expected to continue until mid-April, depending on weather conditions.Known for their sweetness, juiciness, and thin skin, Finike oranges are considered among Türkiye's finest citrus fruits.
