IZMIR, TÜRKİYE - JUNE 29: A Turkish-origin diabetic patient from the Netherlands, who was advised foot amputation by his doctors, is now able to walk comfortably thanks to medical assistance in Türkiye.Last February, the right foot of Ziya Ozaydin, a 52-year-old diabetic patient, got a blister.Ozaydin’s wounds did not heal and the infection spread to his toes despite antibiotic treatment.Dutch doctors told Ozaydin, a father of two who works as a hairdresser in the country, that he needed to get the fingers and part of the foot amputated.On a friend’s suggestion, Ozaydin contacted Alper Sener, an infectious diseases specialist in Türkiye’s Aegean province of Izmir.Ozaydin started to get rid of his diabetic wounds four months after the treatment.Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Sener said Ozaydin had two inflamed wounds on his right foot.“During this process, it is necessary to apply fast and accurate treatment techniques. We have always avoided amputation during treatment,” Sener said.“We applied cell-supported, platelet-rich plasma fibrin therapy. Our goal was to revive dead cells. We had two sessions, a week apart, and started getting a response,” he added.Sener said Ozaydin’s smaller wound has completely healed, while the other one is improving.Ozaydin said he was very upset over the idea of amputation and is glad to be walking comfortably again. “It’s like I was born again.
