Giant ”Kadomatsu”- A Pine Decoration For New Year At Matsuyama Station

MATSUYAMA, JAPAN - DECEMBER 23: (NO SALES TO JAPANESE BROADCASTERS) A turtle and an owl made of rice-straw hang from the Kadomatsu on December 23, 2025 in Matsuyama, Japan. "Kadomatsu" is a traditional Japanese New Year's decoration made of pine and bamboo, placed at the entrance of a house or a facility to invite good fortune. On December 23, two giant "Kadomatsu", handmade by local high school students, were installed at Japan Railroad(JR) Matsuyama Station in Ehime-prefecture, the prefecture in Shikoku-region. Every year, around this time, the station displays this large decoration to welcome the New Year. The 3-meter-tall "Kadomatsu" are adorned with plum and pine branches, along with various auspicious symbols such as cranes, turtles and owls, to greet travelers and homecomers during the holiday season.
