'Caganers': Christmas Tradition in Catalonia
GIRONA, SPAIN - DECEMBER 7: Typical Catalan ceramic figurines called “Caganers" (poopies) . Statuettes of well-known people defecating are a strong Christmas tradition in Catalonia , dating back to the 18th century as Catalonians hide caganers in Christmas Nativity scenes and invited friends to find them. The figures symbolize fertilization, hope and prosperity for the upcoming year. Currently, The Caganers are famous people like the Director of the Centre for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies (CCAES), Fernando Simón, the Barcelona Football Club's coach, Ronald Koeman and the singer Pau Donés.
