Minnesota Prosthetics Clinic Aids Ukrainian War Veterans With Rehabilitation

ANOKA, MINNESOTA - JUNE 11: Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier Serhii Kyrychenko, practices walking with his prosthetic leg up and down the driveway of the suburban house he is sharing with five fellow injured soldiers during his second morning in the United States on June 11, 2024 in Anoka, Minnesota. Amputees and veterans of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, Kyrychenko and five fellow soldiers traveled to Minnesota to receive free prosthetics, physical therapy, counseling and other care from the Protez Foundation, a Twin Cities clinic co-founded by chief medical officer Yakov Gradinar and CEO Yury Aroshidze, both originally from Ukraine. Having completed his mandatory military service earlier in life, Kyrychenko rejoined the Ukrainian military in 2022 after the Russian invasion and was injured in 2023 when a mortar landed just three feet from him during battle, severing his right leg. He survived after spending eight hours pinned down under fire with three tourniquets in place to keep him from bleeding to death. (Footage by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)
